The UC Berkeley Basic Needs Security Committee is proud to present the 2018 Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week campaign from 11/12-11/17! We believe that holistic student health and wellness is an absolute priority, and we are excited to bring together the community to honor this collective belief. Throughout the campaign, we will be hosting workshops about the intersection of basic needs and financial aid, mental health, waste awareness, and more! Food will be provided at most events. As the winner of the “2017 Best Overall Awareness Week” in the country out of 700+ events last year, we are ready to share new and improved programming and continuously improve.

Please consider donating to support our food pantry, CalFRESH, farms and gardens, community programming, advocacy work, and more HERE.

Saturday 11/10 - Friday 11/16

Case Competition

We are excited to host our second Case Competition in honor of Hunger and Homelessness Week in partnership with FEED Berkeley and ASUC Senator Regina Kim’s Office!
The case competition is intended to get students to think critically about BNS issues and help offer solutions that BNS can implement in the future. There is NO data analysis required, so students from all majors, years, and backgrounds will be on an even playing field and can find the event manageable.

In addition, students from all UCs are welcome to create a team to participate in the University California campus wide competition.

Please sign up in teams of 3 - 5 by Friday, November 9th, 2018 HERE.

The prompt will be released to teams on Saturday, November 10th, and solutions are due on Thursday, November 15th 4:59 PM. Our judges will review the submissions and decide the finalists by the night of November 15, 2018. Finalists will be notified by 10:00 PM, and will present between 9 am - 3 pm on Friday, November 16th. Results will be announced at our community dinner on November 16th 5 - 7 pm at Anna Head Alumnae Hall.

The prizes this year consist of:

  • 1st place: meal with the Vice Chancellor of Equity & Inclusion Oscar Dubón, Jr. and featured story on the BNS page

  • 3rd place: $25 gift card to the Berkeley Student Food Collective for each member
