Why Basic Needs?
When I arrived at UC Berkeley, I was shocked to see that nearly every street beyond the 4 parameters of the university seemed to have devastating conditions of houselessness. What was even more shocking was learning during freshman orientation that Berkeley’s campus community was not exempt from these conditions. From our own campus, to the city of Berkeley, and all the way to the city in Palestine that I call my second home, basic needs are neglected and health conditions are devastating. I made it my mission to work towards securing basic needs for and improving the wellness of my campus community and beyond. I feel immensely blessed to be a working part in the Basic Needs effort and aspire to carry our values of justice and belonging until these communities have their basic needs met!
