Javier Cano (he/him/el)

Job title:
Care Coordinator
Bio/CV:

Hello everyone! My name is Javier E. Cano and my pronouns are He/Him/El. I am excited to join the Basic Needs team as a Care Coordinator and contribute to the continued work and service we provide to students and the community at UC Berkeley.

I am a proud first-generation latino educator and equity advocate, raised by my immigrant parents, from a low-income household. I was born and mostly raised in the San Gabriel Valley (SGV) in Southern California for the majority of my life. I moved around most of my life but this provided me with the opportunity to live in various parts of California that include the Central Valley and the Bay Area. My Higher Education journey began when I attended community college at Rio Hondo, I was then able to transfer to UC Merced where I earned my B.A. in Psychology in 2018. I returned to school and received my M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development from Azusa Pacific University in 2025. I am passionate and committed to addressing basic needs, closing equity gaps, and contributing to affordable and accessible higher education pathways.

In my spare time I enjoy walking through various nature trails and always enjoy spending time with friends and family. I enjoy live music and I am always trying new food cuisines. I also enjoy my quiet time reflecting or reading a good book and especially combining these things at the beach. Overall I look forward to being of service and a pillar of support to our students and being in community with everyone here at Cal!
